His Excellency the Minister of Labour and Social Development, Mr. Jameel bin Mohammed Ali Humaidan, chaired the second meeting of the Higher Committee for the Care of Persons with Disabilities (People of Determination), held at his office in the Ministry and conducted via video conference. The meeting was attended by members of the Committee. During the meeting, the first draft of Bahrain’s second national report on the rights of Persons with Disabilities was reviewed. The report outlines the measures undertaken by the Kingdom of Bahrain to enhance the effective participation of governmental, private sector, and civil society institutions in providing the highest quality services to Persons with Disabilities, safeguarding their rights, and preserving their dignity. The Committee also reviewed the achievements of its Executive Office, discussed the national plan for the strategy on the rights of Persons with Disabilities, and examined the outcomes of the first meeting of the Joint Gulf Supreme Committee in preparation for the sixth Theatre Festival for Persons with Disabilities. On this occasion, the Minister of Labour and Social Development praised the efforts made to serve and support Persons with Disabilities. He stressed the importance of regularly updating the national strategy and action plan concerning the rights of Persons with Disabilities, and continuously developing them in line with the Kingdom of Bahrain’s qualitative achievements in serving this group. His Excellency reaffirmed the shared commitment to further advancing the rights and accomplishments of Persons with Disabilities. The Higher Committee for the Care of Persons with Disabilities includes representatives from governmental, private, and civil society organisations, including the ministries of Labour and Social Development, Foreign Affairs, Education, Housing, Health, Public Works, Municipalities Affairs and Urban Planning, and Information Affairs, as well as the Ministry of Youth and Sports Affairs, the Supreme Council for Women, the Civil Service Bureau, and the Bahrain Chamber of Commerce and Industry. Also represented are the Bahrain Paralympic Committee, the Bahrain association for parents and friends of the disabled, and the Bahrain Mobility International Centre.
