Bahrain joins the world in celebrating the 30th anniversary of the Convention on the Rights of the Child

His Excellency the Minister of Labour and Social Development, Chairman of the National Committee for Childhood, Mr. Jameel bin Mohammed Ali Humaidan, chaired the regular meeting of the National Committee for Childhood. Topics discussed included details of the celebration of Universal Children's Day on November 20th of each year, and its special significance this year, as the world celebrates the 30th anniversary of the adoption of the Convention on the Rights of the Child. A report was also reviewed on the participation of the Kingdom of Bahrain in the session to discuss its periodic report submitted to the Committee on the Rights of the Child at its 80th session, and the international praise achieved regarding the reality of children’s rights in the Kingdom. It was also addressed what had been accomplished regarding the preparation of the Kingdom of Bahrain’s report on the two additional optional protocols attached to the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child. On this occasion, Humaidan affirmed that the international praise for the legislative, executive and legal measures taken to achieve the best reality for children's rights had a significant impact in raising Bahrain's profile and placing it among the countries committed to protecting human rights, and children's rights in particular. He pointed out in this context that the UN Committee on the Rights of the Child praised, in its final report, the level of dialogue and cooperation that took place during the discussions. In the same context, His Excellency the Minister of Labor and Social Development said that the Kingdom of Bahrain's celebration of the 30th anniversary of the Convention on the Rights of the Child, as part of its celebration of Universal Children's Day, confirms the great interest the government places in ensuring the development and protection of children in Bahrain and safeguarding their rights, particularly through effective measures, legislation, and initiatives. He noted the importance of the role of children in expressing themselves during these celebrations, which take children's rights as a primary goal.
